Serious Unexpected quit issue

Quick summary: I'm a Cartographer. We create our Map files in Freehand using FHMX. Take a look at a Map and you can see just how complex the files can get. 50K pieces of Text on average, 60-150 Styles i the style sheet. 50+ layers deep, 20-30 items in the Library, etc. They can get rather complex and confusing in a hurry if you aren't careful.

I spend the majority of my time cleaning up old crap files putting them in style, removing/replacing bad objects, empty Text boxes, etc etc etc. We work in fh files and save eps's when done to import into Indesign. I just spent 3 days cleaning up an old file and trying to find and remove post script error typically caused by fonts or Overprints. My latest crash with this file resulted in a file that I can open but no longer work in. as soon as I do ANYTHING, I get and unexpected quit. I tried it on another box, same issue. I've been trying everything I can think of now for about 3 hrs trying to resurect this file.

I'm working on Dual 2.5Gig G5's with 8 Gigs Ram, so the machine is te issue. and seeing as the same results are found on different boxes, I know it's in the file. I'm wondering if the file is fragmented or something to where I can open but can't work in it.

Anyone hear know how to go into the file... "scripting" to see if we can find out what's wrong?
