Upgrading from Freehand 9.0.1

I am WAY behind the curve with system and software upgrades so please forgive me if this is ancient history, but ...

I'm now using OSX (Tiger) and wish to upgrade my version of Freehand from 9.0.1 to be with OSX. Is (was) there a way to do this or do I have to purchase the Adobe version of Freehand now?

I know that I can still run version 9.0.1 in Classic mode, but am hoping to minimize the number of new files created that way.
