Rotated type color prints wrong

When I rotate type and print it to my Epson 2200 (non-Postscript) the color of the type changes. If I convert it to paths the color is ok but the type is much less crisp.

Any way to fix this? Or should I just live with less-than-crisp type (this is a comp - not the end of the world if it's not perfect).
