So I'm working on a file, I close it, then I can't re-open it. Bizarrely, the same file WILL open on another PC OK. (a puny IBM ThinkPad)

This is deeply frustrating as it's a file I've been working on for days.

Remove All Overprints

Maybe I'm missing something very obvious, but I can't seem to find a way to remove all overprints in a document. Is there a way?

We received a very complex multi-page layout from a customer, and either they didn't understand what overprints are or they simply paid no attention to what they were clicking. There are random elements set to overprint all throughout, and we need to turn them all off. Unforunately the only time the overprint checkbox appears is when you have a single object selected; unlike Illustrator I cannot select all and turn off the overprints for everything.

Is there a workaround for this, or am I being blind (like usual) and missing the obvious?

Export to PDF Error

My FHMX has suddenly developed an aversion to exporting to PDF! The problem seems to just be restricted to large-dimension documents - though I can't say that I recall having this problem in the past. I have a 48x36" document, and when exporting get the following error message "An error occured while exporting a PDF. The PDF file may not be valid." Sure enough, it won't open in Reader. I did some research an noticed a limitation on the dimensions of a document that FHMX can export, so I changed the dimensions of my document to be less than 45". This has not resolved the problem. As noted earlier, I know that I was able to export the original, larger document in the past... so I am unsure of why this error is cropping up now.

Any suggestions for a work around? Do the PDF export settings need to be configured a very specific way? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

New Document Template a NO-GO ...

When trying to establish a Default template within FH's Preferences, the Default Ltr document is non-selectable.
And editing this [default] template and re-saving seems to make it invisible to FH's Preference file.
Any work-arounds or suggestions?

Printing Pantone Colors

I am using a Xerox Phaser 7760 with Freehand MX on OSX 10.3. When I go to the printers web interface and print out the test Pantone library on this printer, it prints very good, not perfect, but very good. When I then go into freehand and draw some shapes with colors, I can't get the colors to print as good as the pantone swatches do. Any ideas?

Hello Friendly Freehanders.

Any comments yet on running FH MX under Windows 7?

I understand Windows XP can run in emulation mode in Win7 Professional version and wonder if that will be an option for running Freehand. I am using FH MX on Win XP without any major dramas, but the computer is approaching its "use by" date. Meanwhile my old Mac G4-400 running FH8.0 under OS9 chugs on happily and with rock solid reliability.

Converting FreeHand Files to native .ai

If all you have is CS6 how do you convert old FreeHand files to native .ai?

 

I used FreeHand for 15 years and I can't simply give a finger to my archive of art just because Adobe makes a dumb-*** call and doesn't bother to create a simple drag and drop FREE app for FreeHand users that'll convert a file.

 

I don't care about retaining fonts or placed images I just need access to the vector art in my old FreeHand files.

 

Any suggestions other than "Re-install CS5." which isn't an option.

I have been looking for a way to purchase Freehand MX, but it appears that adobe has phased this product out, and the download links no longer work. The only thing I have been able to come across is a Freehand MX portable version. Does anyone know about the legality of such a program? I know it is not officially from Adobe, but if they no longer sell or support Freehand would it be ok to use this?

Freehand 10 Font Issues

Hello People,

 

A member of staff has sent me the following issue she is having using Freehand 10 -

 

 

When I copy text from Word (for example font MingLiu), FreeHand shows the following message/warning: Font is not installed. Program will use Arial font. But as you saw there is long list of fonts including MingLiu.

 

Sometimes when I open old files, FreeHand shows text as a group of points/graphic. So I can't easily edit text

 

I cant seem to find anything online to help solve the issue.

 

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
