Freehand Viewer

Hello. Many years ago in art school, I did some projects in freehand. Fast forward to now, I can't view the files as I no longer use the same OS as I once did. Does anyone know of a free MAC OS freehand viewer? I have Adobe CS and that won't read the files.

Any help would be appreciated.

freehand MX export to Photoshop CS

Hi

New here but am on my last hope someone can help with my problem.

I've done this countless times before but for some weird reason it's not working now.
I've switched on and off my mac a couple of times now and the problem still persists.

 

I am exporting an image from Freehand to Photoshop.
I want the layers in the image so I am clicking on "include layers".
When the image exports to PS it's transparent and the black is missing from it.
I've been scratching my head here trying to fathom it out but can't see what is going wrong.
I've tried exporting old files, new ones and none work.
I need to get to the bottom of this quick as I am providing files in PS for a client and right now it's not happening.

 

I can however see the file perfectly well once exported if I don't include layers...but I need the layers!
Anyone any ideas?

Oh and I am in process of trying to teach myself Illustrator cos my agent is forcing me to basically.

I'm looking to re-install my Freehand 11, but my original serial numbers won't work. I'm told there is a universal serial number for Freehand. Does anyone know this number?

Printing Error in Freehand MX 11

I am getting an odd error when I go to print from Freehand MX 11.  I am running Windows XP with SP3.  When I go to print an .eps file it tells me that "The specified printer could not be initialized.  Try a different printer, or reinstall the printer driver."  I have removed the printer driver and reinstalled it as well as Freehand.  This does not seem to fix the issue.  My default printer in Windows is set and Freehand is trying to use another printer driver associated with my multi-printer.  It is trying to send it to the "Fax" driver instead of the normal printer driver.  I have uploaded a screenshot of the error message.  Thanks in advance for any help given.  I have searched all over and have found a post, but not any answers.  Thanks again.

FreeHand MX 11.0 Printing error....

I'm Using Adobe FreeHand MX 11.0, when i need to print out always msg error"Could not complete your request becuase read or write access has been denied".

 

i try  go into C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Macromedia\FreeHand MX\11\English\Settings

 

and delete the fhprefs.txt file. The next time you start FH, the file will be regenerated and FH will startup like a new installation. I'm using XP but I find I have to do this fairly often. Don't be discouraged if it doesn't work the first time. Keep trying. Also try deleting fhmxxmgr.txt, logging off and back on the desktop and any combination of the aforementioned.

 

this method can be used, but when i click ppd the same problem have coming back:

i think no just only delete fhmxxmgr.txt andfhprefs.txt, may be need more changing.

FreeHand 11.0.2 conversion to CS5

I've tried the CS5 trial download.  It took a while to adjust to the navigation differences.  Obviously, resistance to change is high among most users, but CS5 does have some pretty cool features.  My questions is, will the "official" FH11 to CS5 upgrade disable or limit my FH11 in any way?  I still have clients that require FH11 files from me, but some of my new clients would prefer Illustrator files.  Thanks.

Freehand does not export lens fills or tints to PDF.

I've had this issue forever and would be really grateful for any advice.

 

Whenever I export out of Freehand to PDF it ignores any lens fills or tint panels I've created and leaves them behind.

 

Any ideas anyone?

Tab Leader not working as desired

Hi,
I have inserted certain tabs in my text in the text area. I want those tabs to be leaded by some specific characters. What I know I can use Tab Leaders for that. Am I correct? Or is Tab leaders for some other use.

When I am trying to use the TAB leaders, I can not see the tab leader inserted where ever I have tabs inserted. Why is it so?

Error when making PS file

I am having problems converting FH MX files to Postscript files since I upgraded my PowerPC based Mac to a Duel-Core Intel Xeon Machine.

I get error message sometimes with large multiple page documents that read:

Could not complete your request because both source paths of a blend must be open or cloed.

There are no blends on any pages in the documents.

Any suggestions or has anyone else run into this problem?

FreeHand And Illustrator!

I just did a followup interview with both Mordy Golding and Adobe. I hope to have it posted on my blog sometime this weekend. I think all FreeHand users will be relieved to read some of the answers to the questions we've been asking. One thing that was right all along, we should be using the Illustrator forum to tell them what features we would like to see in Illustrator. If Adobe handled this correctly and told us right away last year about FreeHand's plans, we could have worked closer with the Illustrator team. They want to know what we would like to see in Illustrator and I get the feeling they will add many of the features we like, even multiple pages, eventually. No, they can't disclose future plans but they do want Illustrator to be a great product...and it can be great with some FreeHand features.

I will let you know when the interviews are posted. Also, thanks to everyone who signed the FreeHand petition. You may not think it did any good, but Adobe does realize that some features are important to us FreeHand users and I wouldn't be surprised if they show up in CS 4.

I'd like to hear from some of you if I should keep the support page up much longer. I think it served it's purpose. Maybe I should just leave it up as a page without having it be a guestbook for now?

missing tool bars revisited

I just installed Freehand 11.0.2, the graphic axe I've been using for at least five years through various upgrades, after having removed all traces of a previous installation of ALL the programs in my MX 2004 suite to start over with a pure, Macromedia-free set up (sigh). While the Macromedia disk used for the install tested fine on another XP SP2 computer, on mine the very first run of the program opens with problems: the particularly ugly shades o' gray Welcome to Freehand" blurb on screen one (on my two screen system) and a blank Freehand window on screen two (not under the blurb on screen one where it should be) - and the blank window has NO new blank file opened inside, and no tool bars or palettes either.

Opening a new file from the menu doesn't do anything but present a new file - still no palettes or panels, despite both being turned on for viewing in the menus (and they all work from right-click). I've tried ALL of the fixes provided by Adobe in Tech note 13186 as suggested by Judy Arndt earlier, to no avail. Even reconfigured my system to one-screen-only as a test. Nope.

Because the program appears to perform correctly on other systems I thought the problem must be with my system. But I have no other pallete or tool bar issues with other apps in my "designer's toolbox" and specifically none with the other programs in the MX 2004 suite and anyway, Freehand isn't even painting it's own automatic new install/first-run opening screens correctly, a step so early in the first-run process that it's hard to believe anything significant already resident on my computer is mucking it up.

I have to think there's a snippet of code somewhere that Freehand (and apparently Freehand alone) references first thing when it starts up, and that snippet's corrupt. Needless to say, I haven't a clue about how to attack that. Would really appreciate help from any propeller head out there... and thanks in advance. I'll even tackle Registry changes without a backup first (gasp!) if I have to.

My rotate tool won't work? (FreeHand MX, Mac OS 10.6.3)

Hi All,

 

I recently loaded FreeHand MX on a Macbook Pro.  It seems to run pretty happily, except I can't get the "rotate" tool to select. I added this tool to the default toolbar (using "toolbar/customize" but when try to I select it, the cursor reverts almost immediately to an arrow or magnifying glass (whatever it was just now). So to rotate objects I've had to activate View/Transform Handles, or use the Transform dialogue box and type in my values. The former solution actually works pretty well but I'd really like for the basic rotate tool to work!

 

I read last month in the forum people were having problems with FH and OS 10.6.2; someone said 10.6.3 solved their problem, so I upgraded to 10.6.3 before loading FH MX. But I'm wondering if this is a 10.6.3 compatibility issue, or if there's something I can do to menus, preferences, or restarting, that would make this tool work. I need a solution that doesn't involve reloading the software from my FreeHand disks.

 

If you can help solve this, much appreciated! Then I'd just have my usual getting-used-to-MX learning curve (I normally run FreeHand 10 on an old G5 and Mac OS 10.4.11).

FreeHand Out of Memory Error

Any way to solve FreeHand's out of memory error? When I tried and do anything complex, FH screams there's not enough memory and it can't complete the task. Mac OSX 10.6.4. iMac Intel with 4 GB memory. I know that's enough memory. Adding more will not fix the problem.

"Paste special" suddenly isn't working

All of a sudden, when I "paste special -- unformatted" text from one document into another, it's not picking up the text attributes of the text box I'm pasting it into. This is a BIG deal for me, as I'm constantly plugging e-mailed info into charts I have already set up. If I have to reformat every time and re-do tabs, it's going to take up a lot of time. How can I get "Paste Special" to work again??

 

Edited to add: I'm running Freehand MX on Windows XP. (It's a work computer.)

.fh10 file won't open

I have a .fh10 file I am trying to open, and it won't open in CS6 Illustrator or InDesign. I don't have freehand, and it doesn't seem to be available through Creative Cloud (I am a creative cloud member so I can download most of the programs through that).

 

Any suggestions on how to open a freehand 10 file?
