Help, I'm stuck in Freehand, and can't get out!

I have created a masterpiece :-) brochure cover, with a logo over a graphic, with shadow, and gradient fills. It's not a complex file, and my overseas client wants it for use with Illustrator. However, I can't find a way to get it out and back in to Freehand, let alone Illustrator.

I have converted my text to paths. But the main logo disappears altogether (no, it's not linked). The shadow that sits on top of an alpha channel area causes that block area to shift several pixels.

Is Freehand able to export effects properly? What is the best file format for sharing files with Illustrator?

Can I crossgrade to Illustrator?

nesting limit

Having problems opening Freehand MX file. Get a Freehand generated message that says "Could not complete your request because it would cause the nesting limit to be exceeded." Earlier files open fine but would be losing 10-12 hours of work. Any suggestions?

So I'm working on a file, I close it, then I can't re-open it. Bizarrely, the same file WILL open on another PC OK. (a puny IBM ThinkPad)

This is deeply frustrating as it's a file I've been working on for days.

Help me please!

help wanted with FreeHand MX

hi, a little problem with FreeHand MX. It doesn´t show the main tools. I have tried everything, all the shortcuts and everything. It shows properties etc. but the main tools doesn´t show. Can anybody help me? I don´t remember all the short cuts, so it makes my working very difficult.

Hi. I have a problem with the tools and toolbars. They just dont show up anymore. i've tryed from window menu to make them on/off ... on/off but still nothing. I reinstaled the fh mx 11.0.2. but they still dont work.please send feedback. thanks.

Freehand fanatic - AI postscript fills and clipping mask

FH will always be my primary illustration program (started with 3.1) but i am now learning the horror that is AI.

2 simple questions that i would like to ask other FH users that also know a little about Ai.

 

Is there a postscript fill facility in AI? (I am trying to create a simple hatch fill (a snack in FH!) without using clipping mask)

 

When I use clipping mask in AI the path that is doing the clipping disappears is this normal?

 

Also is there any danger of this great forum disappearing in the future as I often refer to it.

Mac OS 10.6.6 & Freehand MX

Anyone out there that can help me? I have MX installed but cannot upgrade to 11.0.1 or 11.0.2 on my Intell based Imac. I spent at least 12 hours on the phone with Adobe and their final evaluation was to forget Freehand and spend $200 for Illustrator. They are telling me that I can't use MX on MacOS 10.6.6, I know that it is not true, because I'm using it now...I just can't upgrade, so that I can use a pressure sensitive Wacom pad, which is how I draw for ALL my design work. I also have MX installed on a G5 tower running OS 10.5.8 and it supports the Wacom pad. I have never used Illustrator, except for transfering files for use in Freehand. I purchased my retail copy of MX off Ebay, because my version 10 did not support  the Wacom, how could they have overlooked such an important feature in 10? Now I have the upgraded MX 11.0 and it does not support Wacom on my newest Intel Imac running 10.6.6. The more I update the more I wish I still had my G3 running Freehand 8. When I started in the design/Ilustration world after the Art Institute of Pittsburgh in '83 I had a set af Mars pens and a pad of vellum....ahh those where the days! But now I'm just rambling! Any suggestions that don't entail working on a Windows based PC?

Batch conversion of old Freehand clipart files to AI or EPS?

I've found several threads about simply opening an old Freehand file into Illustrator, but I am looking for a utility that can convert the entire disk, or at least entire folders at one time. Looks like I have the Freehand 5 and Freehand 7 clipart disks and booklets.

 

I have Macromedia MX, along with the CS5 Design Premium suite on this Windows7 system.

 

A lot of the clipart from that period looks very similar. I start to wonder if I don't already have the same artwork in other packages.

 

I have been copying my clipart CDs to my hard drives and started trying to catalog them. Extensis Portfolio 8.5 appears to be reading AI, EPS, TIF, BMP, JPG, & WMF, but I don't think it is generating preview images for FH5 or even Corel Draw's CDR formats,

 

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

Autochange Makromedia Freehand MXa

I use Makromedia Freehand MXa to make labels.

Sometimes there are 24 labels on the same sheet. I cut out the labels with scissor.

 

Now I want to have date on each label.

How can I connect these 24 textblocks, so I only have to change current date on one label then the other dates change automatically?

 

Is it possible?

How to activate freehand mx 11 - if via internet won't work

I have a copy of the product and want to activate it again on my new computer (windows 7) and the activating procedure doesn't let me do this via the internet and the phone support can not help me and asked me to get help from the website support center. Now I ask you: how can I acivate my copy of Freehand MX 11?

Freehand MX license transfer

Hi, I am looking for confirmation on how to transfer a license for Freehand MX to a new PC.

 

It seems that the authentication servers are not available. Is there some way I can make this authentication locally?

 

I have tried using the generic (never expires) license and that doesn't work either, presumably because the authentication server is not available.

 

I would appreciate confirmation of this simply so I can demonstrate to the department concerned that they need to finally update their process.

Freehand Export to PDF

Could someone please help me, I am trying to export Freehand file to PDF, If I select Page 1 and Export, I could export to PDF format easily, But I am having problem when I try to export multiple pages onto PDF format i.e. I select all the pages(layers) to export and then try to export to pdf, the result - all pages are exported to one pdf page, I would appreciate if someone can help me here, many thanks//shah

trying to placing clear cut tiffs over cropped tiffs in Freehand - please help!

Hi there,

 

I'd be extemely grateful if anyone out there can help me!  I'm having a little trouble with my freehand product catalogue.

 

I've managed to figure out how to import tiffs into freehand as clear cut images (which are my products) without the background showing.

And now I'm trying to lay some of those clear cut tiffs over simply cropped tiffs (which are just large photos).

This all looks fine until I export to PDF... now when I look at the pdf the large photo sitting under the clear cut product looks a bit wierd around the area of the clear cut product tiff.

 

Does anyone know why and what I can do about it?

I'm a little desperate!

When exporting a MX file to Freehand 9 Tiff Moves...

I have created a t-shirt design in Freehand MX. I am sending it to a screen printer who has freehand 9. The design is all vector except for two tiffs. When I export the file to a freehand 9 file and then open up that file the tiff has moved in the design. I have tried selecting the whole design and locking it.

 

Any help?

Wir besitzen aktuell eine Freehand MX Version für Mac. Da innerhalb unseres Marketings sowohl ich als auch meine Kollegin – wenn auch nur recht selten – mit dem Programm arbeiten, stelle ich mir die Frage: Ist es erlaubt, Freehand parallel auf beiden Rechnern zu installieren, solange wir nicht parallel damit arbeiten, sondern immer nur einer? Diese Lösung wäre sehr wünschenswert, da meine Kollegin sonst immer meinen Rechner belegen muss und wir arbeitszeittechnisch nur wenig Nichtüberschneidungen haben.
