We have an issue which I discussed with Macromedia over 3
years ago (and they acknowledged) but due to no updates for
FreeHand we're still fighting with it.
The issue is that the following special characters are
substituting to other characters when printed (Laser or PDF):
Copyright (becomes apostrophe)
Registerd (can't remember)
Trademark (can't remember)
Bullets (become yen symbol)
Quotes (disappear)
em dashes (can't remember)
and maybe others I've forgotten...
Our current workarounds are to do the following (at least
there are workarounds...):
1) Convert all fonts to paths (not pretty but works, however
Laser prints of outlined fonts can appear bold-ish which can be
confusing to designers and clients)
2) Quit and re-launch FreeHand
3) Reboot the Mac (if option 2 doesn't work)
4) Delete the Font Cache files from the System/Library/Caches
and Library/Caches folders and reboot.
I'd love to know if anyone has any permanent fixes for this
coz it is driving our proofreader CRAZY!!!! We're also picking
these substitutions up on digital proofs which is a real
danger!!!!!! But, better there than on the press!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
We need this fixed, Adobe!
