I use Freehand MX to do simple B&W line art, so I am
attempting something out of my league. I have drawn a music stanza.
It consists of the notes sitting on 5 lines. I am attempting to
make these pieces fade from a solid color to white. Somehow I have
managed to get the notes as a group to do this by creating a
gradient in Properties>Object. But I can't seem to figure out
how to apply a gradient to the 5 lines, or even to an individual
line for that matter. Is it possible to create a line that starts
as a solid color and fades to white? Can someone provide a
step-by-step to help me do this? Many thanks.

Creating anchor points from jpg
As a very new user I am experimenting with creating anchor
points based on drawings I've made in Photoshop. I have a simple
line drawing in jpg format and I would like to convert this drawing
to eps anchor points. Eventually I want to clean up the lines -
correct several irregular curves - and be able to resize the image
to any size needed. Where can I best get info on converting the
image to anchor points?

Freehand MX font handling
Hi, sorry if this has been discussed previously, I'm new.
Could anyone suggest a way to fix the fact that some of my files
are displaying perfectly regarding fonts in Freehand 10 (and under)
yet not Freehand MX? This is in Classic and OSX. On some machines
the fonts will appear but are not in character and will print like
this (ie. incorrectly). On others the fonts will not appear at all,
with no message or option to replace missing fonts. In old Freehand
you get that 'working' dialogue box as the application opens the
file, implying it is sorting things out (like fonts!) but nothing
in Freehand MX, just doesn't seem to bother... or something like
that. Is it the fonts themselves or perhaps font management (ie
ATM)? Please throw me some advice... for now we are reverting back
to Freehand but can't continue doing so.

problems exporting eps
I am using mac power book with quark 6.1, but whenever I
import a eps file into my quark document that was created in
Macromedia Freehand MX version 11 and print it out the quality is
very poor, I am sure there is something somewhere that I should be
clicking on either in freehand prior to exporting eps or in quark
before printing, had this problem before but can't remember how I
solved it!! Can anyone help?

I often get the following error message:
"could not draw the document because un unknown error occured"
the image is not built up properly, sometimes part of the drawing
disappeares. I can save the drawing, restart FreeHand and get the drawing
back, but then after a while the problem starts again.
Memory is not the problem; I have 3 gig.

Looks like FREEHAND!!!!
I was doing my usual work, switching back and forth from FH
to PS3 and it suddenly hit me. Almost everything in the new
Photoshop looks and works like Freehand's graphic interface. I love
it. It's an amazing similarity. This gives me hope that Adobe may
be rolling a lot of the greatness of Freehand into all it's apps.
If so, I will be one pleased person. If they keep Freehand alive
also, that would be like Easter all over again!

Drawing roads in freehand
As a complete punter on Freehand (10) I'm struggling with how
to draw lines with black edges and a coloured fill (like on an
Ordnance survey map).

Font Management in MX
We've been continuing to run FH8 in OS9 Classic Environment
so we can use Type Manager & Type Reunion. I'd like to switch
to MX, but the font list is completely unworkable. What are you all
doing about font selection from Freehand in OSX? (Our Freehand
version is 11.0.2 and the OS is 10.3.9)

importing .ai in FH10? help please!
i'm trying to import .ai file in FH10, but fh won't import
it. message is: 'could not import because the file is not a
properly formatted EPS file'.. i tried also to export file from AI
CS as .eps and then import in FH, but i got just low resolution
picture without vector graphics.
any clue how can i solve this? maybe some plug in or..?

creating Pdf problems
Hi
I have a problem with creating pdf from freehand file that include jpg image imported from photoshop. While creating pdf the imported image (which is in colores) inverted to greys and the image getting some ugly strips (not smooth).
I tried to import other image formats but with no lack. it's work the same with creating a ps file and theb a pdf through the distiller.
i will appriciate any help or tips with this

FreeHand MX bouncing in the dock...
FreeHand is not launching. I have had this problem before. I have a copy of the HotFix (HotFix_OSX_Upgrades_1.039en), but I cannot launch it - "The software to be installed requires Administrator or higher level access privileges". So repaired permisions, still won't work. Also what is the link to the HotLink download, I can't find it anymore. Getting worried, deadlines looming!

Macromedia Freehand 9 - transform panel
Hi
I use Macromedia Freehand 9 which has been working well. I have had this working on my new laptop on Windows 7. Recently I got a LCD monitor and have it connected as an extended laptop. I had opened a FH9 file and dragged FH9 application, along with the transform, colour mixer, colour list and object panels, onto the LCD monitor. They were operating fine.
When I'd finished I dragged them back onto the laptop screen but for some reason the transform panel disappeared. I have an icon for each of these in the bar of icons along the top. When I click on the transform icon nothing happens (except the screen does I kind of flick like something is going to change but it doesn't). I have minimised the file I opened in case it was 'behind' it but nothing. When I click on the others they close and open fine.
I tried clicking on the object and clicking modify at the top and coming sown to transform and selecting one of the options but nothing happens. I have also gone to customise and taken the icon off the toolbar and put it back again. I have also closed the programme in between these steps in case it needed refreshing.
Under Windows/Panels there is a tick beside Transform. If I take it off and then click on the Transform icon screen does that quick kind of flick thing but nothing happens and when I check back in Windows/Panels the tick is back there.
I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programme but have the same result. Only difference is when programme opens after installing it and I open a file I can open the transform box by clicking on the icon in the toolbar and I can rotate, move, change size etc but after closing the file and reopening it, it's gone back as above and won't come up.
I've also tried the defaults option in the preferences. However it has not brought up the transform box. I just get the same quick flick of the screen each time I did Ctrl-M.
I have also tried the transform short cuts like Ctrl-E and Ctrl-F2 but same result.
This seems a bit weird, I have had a look in google for help but the help I seem to have found is in how to use the transform functions. I do know how to use, it's just I can't access them. With the quick flick thing the screen does it's almost like it's behind somewhere or off the side but just can't seem to figure it.
Do you have any idea what's gone wrong or how I can get it back.
Any help to restore the settings would be absolutely wonderful.

Did latest Mac 10.5.8 update kill Freehand?
Long time FH user, didn't upgrade to Snow Leopard specifically to keep FH running. It's been humming along on my MacBook Pro for 2 years. Yesterday I allowed an automatic Apple system update as I do all the time and now Freehand will no longer start. The icon bounces around in the dock as if it's starting, settles, but never opens on the desktop. Right click on the icon shows 'application not responding.' So I uninstalled/reinstalled, repaired permissions, tried to open on another user account. No luck. Anyone have any ideas? I'm seriously going to have to find an old Tiger Mac just to open my files and convert to Illustrator if I can't get this resolved.

Freehand MX on Windows 7-64 with multiple user profiles
We have recently replaced a WinXP computer with a Win7-64 machine, and the machine has multiple user profiles (one for the day shift person and one for the evening shift person).
I was able to transfer the license using the day-shift profile, but the evening-shift profile still thinks the software is not licensed. I tested with on a Win7-32 machine, and Freehand does not get confused about its license.
Is there a solution for this?

Squares in Indesign CS4 but not in CC?
Hi,
I get squares in Indesign CS4 but not in CC when I export a pdf. Does anybody know why?? It happens to some of the Helvetica font, but not all of it.
It's really confusing for me, and I don't want to change for CC just because of this problem.

When I try to open, its say "Could not initialize the Program, because an unknown command was encountered" Please help as i have my entire Work Files past decade done in Freehand. Running Windows 7 PC, and I never do Windows updates.
