Hey Adobe! Update Frehand
Converting FreeHand Files to native .ai
If all you have is CS6 how do you convert old FreeHand files to native .ai?
I used FreeHand for 15 years and I can't simply give a finger to my archive of art just because Adobe makes a dumb-*** call and doesn't bother to create a simple drag and drop FREE app for FreeHand users that'll convert a file.
I don't care about retaining fonts or placed images I just need access to the vector art in my old FreeHand files.
Any suggestions other than "Re-install CS5." which isn't an option.
Thanks.
Hallo
Degree symbol (option shift 8)
After much digging it turns out that, although I was using Bitstream Zurich (in various weights) and no other fonts in the FH document, the problem was caused by the Degrees character (as in temperature) which was selected using alt/shift/8 as normal. With this character in I got the missing font call, with it removed all was well. Converting to paths solved it (of course) but I still don't know why using this character makes for a bogus font call.

print error - read/write access
I am having a problem when trying to print seperations to file, getting the error message:

What version of Freehand will work on OSX Mountain Lion?
I am looking at switching from a powerbook to an iMac that is running OSX Mountain Lion, my version of Freehand is 11.0. What do I need to do to insure that when I receive my iMac that I can install Freehand and it will run?
I need to download a Macromedia Freehand 10 version for my tablet. Can I still do that? I have that version on my computer and am used to working with it.

Trouble Opening FreeHand MX Files
I've been using MacroMedia FreeHand MX for many years. As everyone knows, however, it's been absorbed by Adobe and permanently retired so compatibility and support issues are now common. When I upgraded to Windows 10, it stopped working entirely. After reading some posts, I figured out how to get FreeHand MX working in Windows 10 by using the "Program Compatibility Troubleshooter." I can create NEW files in FreeHand MX with no problem now, but I cannot open any of my existing files. This is a serious problem, because I have dozens of MX files and most are important to me and impossible to replicate. Does anyone know how to overcome this problem?
In the future, I guess I'll be forced to upgrade to Illustrator or something else, but I'm desperate for a short-term solution so I can access my existing files.
Thanks to anybody that can help!

Freehand 3 files
Hi all,
I have been given a load of files from a customer (well a customers customer actually) which are in .FH3 format. I need to be able to access them so I downloaded the trial of freehand 8 which adobe have said is compatible. Some of the drawings will open in FH8 but others will not. I have also tried opening them in Flash/Illustrator/Photoshop/every program i can possibly think of to no avail. Does anyone have any potential solutions or workarounds or maybe even a copy of FH3 they could open a file in to see if it is a valid file etc?
Many thanks in advance
Sam
Macromedia Freehand 9 - transform panel
Hi
I use Macromedia Freehand 9 which has been working well. I have had this working on my new laptop on Windows 7. Recently I got a LCD monitor and have it connected as an extended laptop. I had opened a FH9 file and dragged FH9 application, along with the transform, colour mixer, colour list and object panels, onto the LCD monitor. They were operating fine.
When I'd finished I dragged them back onto the laptop screen but for some reason the transform panel disappeared. I have an icon for each of these in the bar of icons along the top. When I click on the transform icon nothing happens (except the screen does I kind of flick like something is going to change but it doesn't). I have minimised the file I opened in case it was 'behind' it but nothing. When I click on the others they close and open fine.
I tried clicking on the object and clicking modify at the top and coming sown to transform and selecting one of the options but nothing happens. I have also gone to customise and taken the icon off the toolbar and put it back again. I have also closed the programme in between these steps in case it needed refreshing.
Under Windows/Panels there is a tick beside Transform. If I take it off and then click on the Transform icon screen does that quick kind of flick thing but nothing happens and when I check back in Windows/Panels the tick is back there.
I have also tried uninstalling and reinstalling the programme but have the same result. Only difference is when programme opens after installing it and I open a file I can open the transform box by clicking on the icon in the toolbar and I can rotate, move, change size etc but after closing the file and reopening it, it's gone back as above and won't come up.
I've also tried the defaults option in the preferences. However it has not brought up the transform box. I just get the same quick flick of the screen each time I did Ctrl-M.
I have also tried the transform short cuts like Ctrl-E and Ctrl-F2 but same result. This seems a bit weird, I have had a look in google for help but the help I seem to have found is in how to use the transform functions. I do know how to use, it's just I can't access them. With the quick flick thing the screen does it's almost like it's behind somewhere or off the side but just can't seem to figure it.
Do you have any idea what's gone wrong or how I can get it back.
Any help to restore the settings would be absolutely wonderful.
Cheers
Bernadette
Converting FreeHand files with Illustrator CS5
I have not upgraded to OS Lion because it does not work with FreeHand MX. Reluctantly I finally got Illustrator CS5, planning on converting all my many many FH files to AI, which I have yet to learn to use. Now I want to get Lion. Could anyone tell me if I can open FH files with AI after I've installed Lion? Or would I have to convert them while still in Snow Leopard?
Thanks for any advise.
Freehand MX portable
I have been looking for a way to purchase Freehand MX, but it appears that adobe has phased this product out, and the download links no longer work. The only thing I have been able to come across is a Freehand MX portable version. Does anyone know about the legality of such a program? I know it is not officially from Adobe, but if they no longer sell or support Freehand would it be ok to use this?
FreeHand - Registo
Bom Dia. Obrigada.
Easy fix for export/print problem with Freehand under Win7/Vista
For all of those who encountered a dreaded error 'read or write access denied' with Freehand printing or exporting to EPS/PDF under Windows 7 or Vista, there may be an easy fix.
Conditions:
- Freehand v.10 or MX (may affect other versions, not tested)
- Windows 7 (tested with 64-bit Win7 Home Premium, but probably affects other versions)
- Windows Vista (not tested, but other people report the same issue)
Symptoms:
- Export from Freehand to EPS or PDF fails with an error message Could not save the document because read of write access has been denied
- Printing to any Postscript printer – either online or print to file – or printing to Adobe PDF – fails with the same error as above, plus the Postscript interpreter error appears.
Solution:
- Open the Freehand Preferences dialog: Edit ⇒ Preferences ⇒ Export (tab)
Make sure the UserPrep file field is NOT EMPTY. Although you may probably write anything into this field (it works even with a dummy text - tested!), it's safe to create a blank text file and save it into your \Userprep folder (C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Macromedia\FreeHand\10\English\Settings\Userprep) with an extension .prp - i.e. fix.prp, and then input that filename into the required field in the FH dialog. - Exporting to EPS or PDF should now work without any errors related to this issue
- When you open the print dialog (assuming the selected printer is Postscript or Adobe PDF writer - or any other PDF writer, for that matter), you should see your userprep file listed in the job summary tree menu. Printing should also work without any errors related to this issue.
- The same method works with Freehand MX, obviously the location of \Userprep folder is different
Happy printing and exporting!
Hope this helps,
Igor
